Refuting Compromise is Dr. Sarfati's third "Refuting..." book (along with Refuting Evolution I & II). This four hundred page book is dedicated to critiquing the claims of progressive creation, a movement spearheaded by Dr. Hugh Ross. This timely work (published in 2004) is exactly what Christians need to read since so many have been taught that it is alright to compromise the early chapters of Genesis. My only complaint with the book is that it seems to have been rushed at the printers - there are a couple of minor editing mistakes. Many Christians object to a book such as this because it critiques a fellow believer and his beliefs (Dr. Sarfati does not question Dr. Ross' faith in Christ. For the record, neither does Midwest Apologetics). However, this book does not attack Dr. Ross personally, but refutes his many erroneous claims. Also, since Dr. Ross has made numerous misleading allegations against YECs (Young Earth Creationists). He continually uses straw man arguments even though he has been corrected numerous times in person and in print. This book is necessary to not only set the record straight but also to "earnestly contend for the faith" (Jude 3). In addition, we must wonder (along with Sarfati) why don't Christians object to Hugh Ross' attacks on YECs? A quick glance at pages 29 - 33 will help the reader understand why this book is vital. (This section is available at http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs2001/0209ross_ye_v_oe.asp). Dr. Sarfati details ten misleading statements by Dr. Ross and briefly critiques each of them. The remainder of the book goes much deeper than this short summary. The book is divided into the following chapters:
The average layman will not have trouble understanding most of the book. There are a few sections (shaded in gray) which are quite technical but the reader may skip these gray sections and not miss the point. Throughout the book Dr. Sarfati is very gracious toward Dr. Ross while effectively critiquing Ross' works. This is one of the best books I have ever read - 10 out of 10.
